Our Centre
Who runs the Kip McGrath Education Centre West Norwood?
Our Centre manager, Andrea Redman, is a specialist in developing and supporting children, encouraging success however difficult and desperate the circumstance. She has experience with special educational needs and behavioural problems of all kinds and has taught for over 20 years in local schools. The decision to develop this Centre came from a desire and determination to support children who are not succeeding, for whatever reason, within the school system.

Andrea says, “I want my students to feel confident that they can succeed and to enjoy the process of learning. Positive thinking is a powerful force all children can feel. I was reminded by an ex-pupil that I had taught them the sky was the limit, as a University student now he wanted me to know that he and others had succeeded because of my faith in them.”

Andrea enjoys music and ice skating and sings in a local choir.

Phil Redman is Andrea's husband and Centre Director. He has recently 'retired' as Lambeth's Schools ICT Strategy Manager where he worked with all the schools in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Phil started his teaching career in 1974 in Lambeth, then went on to teach in Southwark. In 1979 he was in the forefront of the new movement to put computers into schools and became an advisory teacher for ILEA. When ILEA was disbanded, Phil moved onto Lambeth where he stayed until his early retirement.

Phil has a Diploma in ICT in Education and a Masters Degree in Education. He has had experience with children of all ages throughout his career.

In his spare time, he likes to ice skate, play with gadgets and follow Crystal Palace football team. He also follows his son's interest in American Football.

We also employ an experienced maths and science specialist teacher who has over 25 years teaching experience in which he has been deputy head teacher, head of department , head of faculty and head of year as well as lecturing at college and university level. He is particularly skilled at small group tuition and individual tuition gained from over 15 years of providing such a service to children and young people.

He has degrees in maths, physics and astrophysics and post graduate qualifications in computer architecture and information systems and electronics and computing. He has a long and varied career as a telecommunications officer, medical physicists, research physicist, computer systems analyst, teacher, and college and university lecturer.

He has a wide range of interests both academic and sport that include Judo – he is an Olympian, football - he supports Spurs, field and track athletics, formula one and gymnastics. He is an avid reader and is rarely seen without a book his particular interests at the moment are ancient civilisations, philosophy and all things scientific.

In his spare time he is an avid wine enthusiast and film goer he rarely reads fiction but has been known to read the odd autobiography.

At Kip McGrath we are able, to use this font of knowledge and benefit from his extensive experience and his depth of knowledge of the education systems at all levels, to ensure our young people receive expert tuition and guidance as we develop their individual learning plans.
